]]>The Iamfine service provides an easy way for people who are living alone to check in every day, letting their loved ones know they are all right. No technology is required other than a telephone. Each day, the service makes a call to the person living alone. By simply answering the phone and pressing “1”, the loved one informs members of a customizable “care circle” that things are fine. If no one answers, calls are repeated throughout the day, and care circle members are notified that someone may need to check on the loved one.
“After my husband died, I knew I would be living alone,” said one user, a lecturer and teacher in Minnesota. “I wanted a service that would check up on me regularly to make sure I was OK. It needed to be non-invasive and private. My son and I looked into options and found Iamfine. This is a wonderful service that has worked perfectly, giving us both great peace of mind.”
Growing Trend Toward Living Alone, Especially Among Seniors
In the United States, recent census data shows that 27 percent of the American populace now lives alone. While overall numbers in the United Kingdom are lower at 13 percent, there has been a 12 percent increase over the last 10 years. The proportions increase with age, with 59 percent of those aged 85 or more living alone. At the same time, most people like to be independent. According to AARP, nearly 90 percent of seniors want to stay in their own homes as they age, a practice often referred to as “aging in place.”
These trends can introduce serious challenges. Everyone living alone is at risk of isolation and a potential need for critical care. For seniors, these risks can be much higher.
Iamfine Helps Provide Peace of Mind for both Singles and Caregivers
Iamfine provides assistance by letting everyone you care about – friends, neighbors, and relatives – know, each day, that you are all right. You can check in by simply answering the phone, by text, or online. If you ever miss a check in, caregivers can be notified by call, text, or email that someone should get in touch. For people living alone, it’s easy and unobtrusive. For caregivers, it reduces anxiety while providing daily reassurance.
The Iamfine service is meant to augment, not replace, loving contact. It also is not a replacement for emergency service buttons and pendants. Instead, Iamfine provides daily assurance to caregivers that things are fine, and their loved ones know an alert will go out if it is needed.
“It is very satisfying to be a part of something that brings real value to families and people who live alone,” says Paul Hammond, CEO at Iamfine. “The one thing that truly excites me about Iamfine is just how much our customers love it and depend on it.”
Monthly Costs and Free Trials
The Iamfine service is available in both the US and the UK. It can be purchased on an annual basis for $9.99 or ₤7.5 per month. Fourteen day free trials are available without a credit card.
About Iamfine.com
Iamfine was started in 2011 by two brothers, living in different countries, as a way of keeping up with their own active, living-alone, mother. Family and friends liked the idea so much that the business was formed in 2012. Now the premier player in the telephone reassurance market, Iamfine continues to break new ground with features, simplicity, and support. It’s the easiest way to know, every day, that your loved ones are OK. The company can be reached at iamfine.com, or on Facebook.

]]>When the loved one checks in each day they will have the option to trigger a prompt to a member of their care circle to contact them.
"Thank you for checking in today, you may now hang up"
"...you may prompt a member of your care circle to contact you today, press 1 for John, press 2 from Mary"
and then …
"Thank you, an email and an sms/text message have been sent to Mary asking her to contact you"
This feature helps those who might be ok, but would like to prompt an a member of their care circle to get in touch. This is not to be relied on for emergency situations, like a panic button.

]]>All of our customers with whom I have spoken tell me that they really love the service. As the designer/builder of the system, it is extremely gratifying to think that I am helping so many people who live alone feel more cared for so that they can live longer in their homes. This tops my career in the IT industry from a personal satisfaction point of view. Just yesterday I spoke with a customer, who had some questions about the system and he spontaneously came out with “You are doing a great job, keep it up”. You should have seen the smile on my face when I put the phone down.
When we started Iamfine, we targeted one type of person only, senior citizens who live alone. In particular, we were concerned about our mother and that she would never be more than a day without some contact with her care circle. We never imagined the different reasons why some people choose to use the service. Check out our use cases for more examples. We were even contacted recently by someone who was concerned that their donor body would be freshly available to their local hospital upon their death. Although somewhat morbid, this is a perfectly good use of Iamfine.
We recently added the feature to allow loved ones to check in via SMS (as well as the three other ways to check in). Even before we announced the capability for general use, one customer spotted the new feature and now checks in daily by sending an “OK” SMS. Just one click from a mobile phone and their care circle know that they are ok.

Technology and daily terms have changed significantly during our lifetime
Lets look at the world through the eyes of a senior citizen…..
One who was here before: the pill, television, frozen food,
cell phones, bluetooth, GPS, plastic surgery, contact lenses, and credit cards
and even before the jet engine airplane.
For us, timesharing meant togetherness not vacation homes,
a chip meant a piece of wood,
hardware meant nuts and bolts,
software was not even a word,
a web was spun by a spider,
and how can you mail your voice as in voicemail.
Our verbs and language have changed
we listened to a Robin as it twittered its morning song.
we now Tivo a show rather than watch it live
we Mirror data that has been stored in a cloud
computers are now virtualized
and you may even Google yourself to find out more about yourself.
We got married first, then lived together,
we thought cleavage was something the butcher did,
a stud was something that fastened a collar to a shirt,
and the concept of a zombie was not even thought of.
We thought fast food was what you ate in Lent,
a Big Mac was an oversized raincoat and not fast food,
and we ate a crumpet with tea.
In our day, grass was mown,
a pot was something you cooked in,
coke was kept in the coal house,
a joint was cooked for Sunday dinner,
and mail was delivered by a mailman.
We are today’s seniors, a tough bunch when you think how much the world has changed.
Can you think of other things that have changed, please add a comment with your thoughts
